How Dangerous is Radon?

3000 Canadians per year die of radon-induced lung cancer.

How Dangerous is Radon? (Health risks, length of exposure, etc)

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smoking Canadians, and the 2nd leading cause in smokers.  The risk related to radon exposure is dependent on two factors, length of exposure and the level of exposure. The higher your length and level of exposure, the higher your risk of developing lung cancer. Smoking can significantly increase the probability of lung cancer, regardless of the level of radon. As a non smoker, your lifetime lung cancer risk at lifelong high levels of exposure (800 Becquerels) is roughly 1-in-20, compared to 1-in-3 for lifelong smokers. Compare this to low levels of exposure (200 Becquerels) where a lifelong smoker has a 1-in-6 chance of developing lung cancer, and 1-in-50 for non-smokers. Reach out to us today and learn how Kingston Radon can lower your chances of radon related illnesses
